# Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum
We invite you to discover the approximately 1700-year history of Hagia Sophia at this unique museum located in Sultanahmet Square. At the museum, housed in the Defter-i Hakani building, you’ll encounter a rich collection spanning from the Roman Empire through the Ottoman period.
The layered exhibition strategy organized throughout the museum is truly impressive. On the third floor, artifacts from the Roman period are presented, while the second floor features works from the Ottoman period, all brought to life through immersive visual and audio presentations using cutting-edge technology. On the first floor, important works are displayed for the first time across four different themes: Church, Mosque, Museum, and Mosque once again.
Thanks to the audio guide service, you can listen to the story of Hagia Sophia in 15 different languages. Additionally, through the windows on the ground floor, you can observe the historic Byzantine cistern from the Eastern Roman period.
